Harry Potter Playroom
~Our Gryffindor Common Room~

When we remodeled our home with an addition, we included a custom playroom for our children. Since they are all dedicated "Harry Potter" fans, we decided to go with a "Gryffindor Common Room" theme.
Easily one of the most ambitious projects on which I've ever embarked, we began with custom built-in storage shelves and bookcases, and selected berber carpeting in cranberry red in keeping with Gryffindor colors.

Then came the "crazy" part.
We attempted to impart a cobblestone look to the walls by
using a masking tape and sponge painting approach.

Completing the work took a good month and, sadly (in my opinion),
resulted looking more akin to giraffe hide than cobblestone, but hey. . .the kids loved it!
(Rest assured I wasn't about to redo it anytime soon!)

The project was completed by adding all order of detail from the Harry Potter series.
From resin sculptures and bookends to picture frames, plush animals to potions bottles,
Lego sets and a place for wands and robes, the room finally came together.

Come take a look!
